This Summer marks an exciting new world record which took place at the Dubai Christie’s International Modern and Contemporary Art auction where Les Chadoufs by Egyptian artist Mahmoud Saïd sold for $2.4million. In this issue, we celebrate this season’s art events and survey Middle Eastern art at Art Basel 41 in addition to the Canvas-organized panel with Hans Ulrich Obrist. In France, we take a look at a groundbreaking show with works by Giacometti and Serra alongside some greats from the Middle East. We also chat to Lebanese-born collector Tony Salamé, visit October gallery in London and the Burrell collection of Islamic, Medieval, Modern and Oriental art in Scotland. Turkish photographer Mehmet Günyeli graces the pages of Canvas alongside artists Ali Omar Ermes, Lalla Essaydi, Chaouki Chamoun and a city review by Nabil Nahas.
