As the first and only magazine from the Middle East and Arab world, Canvas participates in Art Basel 38. We also wait with great anticipation for the premier at the first Lebanon pavilion ever to appear at the Venice Biennale. Next we also fly to Central America and immerse our readers in the beauty of Mudejar art in Mexico. On the topic of calligraphy, we talk to the Syrian Khaled Al-Saai who has devoted his life to the reinterpretation of 1,200 years of tradition. Other artists featured include Khosrow Hassanzadeh, the first independent Iranian artist to exhibit outside his country and photographer Lara Baladi. Another must-read is a piece by Canvas Editor Lisa Ball-Lechgar discussing the state of the region’s cultural funding and the role of foundations.
