This issue reveals a diversity of artworks often hidden from the public eye. Recently unveiled before an eager audience in Dubai was The Masters exhibition sponsored by Canvas, which included works by luminaires of Western Art such as Van Gogh, Breughel, Cezanne and Tiffany and Picasso as well as the Pearl Carpet of Baroda that was safely locked away in a vault in the depth of New York for the last 25 years. Exploring the thriving contemporary art scene of Cairo, Canvas meets Naheda El-Khoury, owner of the Zamalek Gallery and visits Adam Henein’s private sculpture garden on the outskirts of the city. We also explore Saudi Arabia’s Kinda Foundation, take a look at Jordan’s first female professional photographer Jan Kassay, Sudan’s Mohamed Omar Khalil and Syria’s Mouneer Al-Shaarani.
