Issue 13-1
January - February 2017
$8 – $18
We take stock of what’s been happening and what’s in store for the art world in 2017. An exciting roll call of events is scheduled for the coming months and our expectations are high, especially around those talented individuals who will be instrumental in shaping art this year. Unfortunately politics is never far away and the terrible war in Syria continues to agonise us all for now almost six years. In this issue, Canvas dedicates a special feature to the country in hope to reignite awareness and remind the world of the talent, creativity and long heritage of the Syrian people. We also review Syria: a Living History at the Aga Khan Museum, the Nour festival of arts and Art Basel Miami Beach. One-on-one’s this issue include Jaber Al Azmeh, Khaled Takreti, Fadi Yazigi and Hrair Sarikissian and in our Opinions section we offer four views on how the arts support communities in times of conflict.
