We are excited for the opening of yet another centre for art and culture in the UAE – Warehouse421 in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed – to launch the day after the ninth edition of Abu Dhabi Art kicks off. In addition, this issue includes our first major feature on Middle Eastern artists who work with film and reflects the growing number who are branching out and exploring new media. No one illustrates this trend better than the outstanding photographer and artist Youssef Nabil who we have chosen as our main profile alongside Alfred Tarazi and Farhad Ahrarnia. We also preview the unique global conference Nuqat and Farideh Iashai at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Also exciting is the Biennial of contemporary Arab world photography by Paris art institutions and Walid Raad’s first USA retrospective at MoMA. Last but not least, all eyes are also on Turkey this issue with the Istanbul Biennial, ArtInternational and the second part of our special feature on Modern Turkish Masters.
