In this issue Canvas takes a look at the architectural forms in Nasser Al-Salem’s calligraphic works, Tunisian artist el Seed’s vibrant calligraffiti and depictions of women in Ghada Alkandari’s pieces. In addition, we highlight Anima Gallery in Doha and take a look at Abraham Karabajakian’s collection of modern and contemporary regional works. The Gwangju Museum of Art hosts an imagined meeting between Umm Kulthum and Lee Nan-Young and Lebanese artist Walid Raad exhibits in France with never-before-seen works. Our section studio visit shows Shawki Youssef’s Beirut workspace and in showcase we discuss Steve Sabella’s work highlighting the 38 days he spent in a Palestinian house occupied by Israelis.
