Our cover shows Nabla Yahya’s SoftBank (2023), winner of the 2023 Richard Mille Art Prize. Revealing the untold history of the Suez Canal’s construction, the work represents what it takes to voice the unheard and bring the unseen to life through art – the theme we explore in this issue, entitled Uncovered. Across the pages, we investigate how invisible human experiences are shared and the ways in which artists engage with the hidden aspects of our existence, examining work that sheds light on the cultural and social occurrences that often float under the radar. We look at the act of erasure in art and consider how what is concealed can in fact be a powerful tool for change.
